Alexei Ponikarovsky (Ukr: Олексій Понікаровський) was born in Kiev, Ukraine on April 9, 1980.

Prior to being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1998, Alexei played for the Dynamo Moscow (Ukr: Динамо Москва), one of the premier clubs in the Soviet Union.
